Mushroom Grow Kit FAQ

Find clear answers about setup, daily care, harvesting, safety, and replacement support. For the complete growing process, start with the official tutorial.

How do I set up my Forest Origins mushroom grow kit?

Watch the setup video and follow the complete written steps in the official Forest Origins grow-kit tutorial. It covers the X-shaped opening, surface preparation, initial water, indoor placement, misting, growth, and harvest.

When should I start my kit?

For best results, start the kit as soon as possible after it arrives. If you expect a delay, keep it unopened indoors and away from direct sunlight, heat, and freezing conditions, then contact Forest Origins for guidance.

Why do I make an X-shaped opening?

The opening creates the prepared area where the oyster mushrooms can grow. Cut an X about 2 inches long and 1 inch deep, and keep the plastic flaps attached. See the official tutorial before beginning.

How much of the surface should I scratch?

Lift the plastic flaps and lightly scratch the exposed substrate with a clean fork. Do not dig deeply into or break apart the block.

Where should I keep my kit?

Keep the kit indoors in a well-ventilated area with bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, open windows, strong drafts, heating or air-conditioning vents, and the stove.

How often should I mist my kit?

Use 10 to 12 sprays on the X opening in the morning and evening. Follow this routine consistently and do not make additional cuts.

How long does it take to see growth?

Growth may take 1 to 2 weeks. Care, timing, and indoor conditions affect the result, so this is an expectation rather than a promised date. Once pins appear, check the kit daily.

What should normal growth look like?

The prepared opening may first show healthy mycelium, followed by small pins and then a developing oyster mushroom cluster. Once pins appear, check the kit every day and continue the morning-and-evening misting routine.

Is white or pink fuzzy growth mold?

White or pink fuzzy growth can be healthy mushroom mycelium and does not automatically mean the kit is moldy. If you see green growth, unusual dark patches, or notice a sour or ammonia-like odor, stop making changes and contact Forest Origins with clear photos.

What if mushrooms grow under the plastic or away from the opening?

Growth around the bag can happen. Do not make additional openings because extra cuts may dry out the block. Continue following the official tutorial and contact Forest Origins with photos if you are unsure how to proceed.

What should I do if nothing is growing?

Continue following the official placement and misting instructions for up to 1 to 2 weeks. If there is still no growth, contact Forest Origins with your order number, mushroom variety, setup date, growing location, care routine, and clear photos or video of the kit.

When and how should I harvest?

Harvest as the cap edges begin to thin, before discoloration. Twist the cluster at the base and harvest the entire cluster at once.

How much will my kit produce?

Mushroom growth varies with care, timing, and indoor conditions. Harvest size, speed, appearance, and additional harvests are not promised.

Can the kit grow again?

A bonus crop may be possible after the first harvest, but it is not guaranteed. Follow the bonus-crop video in the official tutorial rather than using an unverified soaking routine.

Should Oyster mushrooms be cooked?

Yes. Cook Oyster mushrooms thoroughly before eating them.

Are there allergy or spore precautions?

The kit contains edible mushroom culture. People sensitive to fungi may experience an allergic reaction, and airborne spores may cause respiratory irritation. Grow the kit indoors in a well-ventilated area and cook the mushrooms thoroughly before eating.

Does Forest Origins offer replacement support?

Eligible issues reported within 30 days of delivery may qualify for replacement. Replacement support applies to the first indoor harvest when the kit is set up and cared for according to the official instructions. Review the complete Replacement Policy.

What information should I send when I need help?

Email support@forestorigins.com with your order number, purchase location and proof of purchase, mushroom variety, setup date, indoor growing location, care routine, description of the issue, and clear photos or video. Keep the kit and packaging until the review is complete.
